The aim for today was to make it to a campsite where we could take the Tongariro Alpine crossing on the Tuesday (about 5 hours driving back through the centre of the north island). This was going to be a pretty long drive so we didn’t want to stop too much. We headed slightly east to Te Puke to visit the Kiwi360 park. This area of NZ is renowned for growing Kiwi fruit and exporting them all around the world. When we arrived we could see many orchards for as far as the eye could see, just growing the kiwi fruit!
We stopped at the tourist park and had a quick look around. We bought some kiwi fruit juice for our journey – which was delicious – and started to head south. We arrived at a campsite in the Tongiriro National Park and organised our shuttle the next morning to the start of the crossing. We were getting picked up at 7am so got an early night!
