The plan was to spend the day in Queenstown before meeting Julia (see 6th Feb) for a coffee in the afternoon, however when we woke it was raining and dull, so we decided it would be a good idea to spend the time travelling and hope for a better day the day after. We drove to a near-by McDonalds and met Julia there. We had a drink and told her of how excellent the jump was, used some wifi, and got on the road. We were not sure how far we would get but the east coast was around 3 hours drive away. On the way we had some brief stops in Cromwell and Alexandra before heading over a moor that reminded us of the Peak District and we arrived in a small town called Lawrence. There were big signs that said the whole town had free wifi. The opportunity was too good to turn down so we pulled over and spend an hour or so catching up with things at home and posting some photos to Facebook.
We then drove another 30 minutes and reached the coastline. Heading off the main highway we found a campsite in a town called Brighton. The site was mostly full of permanent residents but there was a spare bit of grass so they sold it to us for the night. The site backed onto a pond so the scenery was nice, ducks hungry and the people friendly. Brighton wasn’t very big, but like the UK version it was on the coast and had some cafe’s and art galleries. No slot machines or piers though!
