The nearest beach to the hostel was ‘Sunshine Beach’ so we headed there first thing. It was only a short walk away and was fairly quiet as most tourists head to the beaches at Noosa Heads (central). The beach stretched for miles. It would have been nice to have a swim but there were quite a few blue-bottle jelly-fish, or ‘stingers’ as the locals call them.
We decided to walk to Noosa which took around 45 minutes and was probably around 5km away. It was a nice walk through the Noosa National Park. We didn’t see any wildlife but we are sure there will be plenty at night time.
Noosa was very much like Byron Bay, but a bit smaller, less commercialised and more chilled out. The beaches were beautiful and there were plenty of shops and cafes. There was an international surf competition being held at the beach at the time so there was plenty of activity. Although there was not very high surf, it was still cool to see some professionals pull some tricks on their surf boards.
Back on the high street we got hungry (Amanda’s favourite hobby) and found a nice little bar which had an offer for a large pizza and 2 beers for $27 – we couldn’t resist! The toppings were quite unusual and it was absolutely delicious. Also the ice cold beer was very welcome in the scorching heat!
Further down the road, Amanda got drawn in to a shop by a SALE sign...! However she did find a bargain dress in there which was very beautiful and made her very happy.
We headed back to the beach and walked along the sand in the edge of the sea for a while, soaking up some sun. There was a nice breeze to cool us down. The sea was a strange colour in one area of the beach where it was a brown-yellow colour, but only in one patch of the water. We assume it must come from some clay component in the sand.
Before heading back to the hostel we laid on the grass near to where the surfing competition was being held and soaked up the atmosphere.
We walked part way back to the hostel to where the hostel bus collects from the Greyhound bus. Here we met up with Jess and Lee. It was nice to see some familiar faces again. We all bought some wine and beers and headed back to the hostel. It was great to sit and enjoy some drinks with some great company in the evening. The lucky devils had just stayed with family in Brisbane so had been packed off with a load of frozen meals to just microwave! We were so jealous! We consumed a little bit (too much) alcohol before heading to bed!
